SPELLING BEE
Thursday, January12, 2012, Bleckley County Middle School held its Grade Level Spelling Bees for grades 6, 7 and 8. The top two spellers from each classroom were selected to be in the Grade Level Spelling Bee.
The participants in the 6th grade Spelling Bee were: Keyshon Beck, Calvin Bogue, Sam Boston, Torenio Davis, Jeremiah Gallemore, Mason Kirkpatrick(absent), Sam Knighton, Makenzie Leatherwood, Madeline Malcom, Connor Outlaw, Destiny Pallord, Abigayle Powell, Abbigail Richardson, Alan Rogers, Sydney Steff, and Nicole Steverson.
The 6th Grade Spelling Bee winners were:
3rd place: Abigail Richardson,
2nd place: Calvin Bogue, and
1st place: Abigayle Powell.
The participants in the 7th grade Spelling Bee were: Blake Bohannon, Cazembe’ Brown, Leslie Bryant, Kalena Cobb, Bray DeLoach, William DeLoach, Jack Disotell, Kaleb Godwin, AJ Howard, Shakira Hugh, Katelynn Jones, Steve Matheny, Kate Sanders (absent), Tracy Spires, Robert Stone, and Thomas Yearty.
The 7th Grade Spelling Bee winners were:
3rd place: Kaleb Godwin,
2nd place: Tracy Spires, and
1st place: Blake Bohannon.
The participants in the 8th grade Spelling Bee were: Kelsey Anderson, Maurice Anderson, Blake Barfield, Allyson Bowen(absent), Chayce Brantley, Katie Burton, Jessie Cannon, Cassidy Fountain, Jonathan Hendrix, Logan Lucas, Kiley Moe, Joseph Morrow, Rebecca Powell, Allie Smith, Jada Wilson(absent), Macy Wyatt(absent).
The 8th Grade Spelling Bee winners were:
3rd place: Logan Lucas, 2
nd place: Blake Barfield, and
1st place: Cassidy Fountain.
The 1st and 2nd place winners at each grade level will be competing in the Bleckley County School System Spelling Bee on February 7 at 9 a.m. at the Bleckley County Middle School Caferteria. This competition will be with students in Grades 4-8. The winner of this Spelling Bee will compete in the GAE District 7 Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Eatonton, GA.

Gifted Education Referrals
Students in the Bleckley County School District who demonstrate a high degree of intellectual, academic, and/or creative ability are provided with instructional services by the Program for Gifted Students. Eligibility criteria for placement in this program are determined by the State Board of Education. Referrals for consideration of eligibility for gifted services may be made by teachers, counselors, administrators, parents or guardians, peers, self, and other individuals with knowledge of the student’s abilities.
Each year during the month of January, referral forms are accepted. The referral forms may be picked up from the principal’s office of each school during regular school hours in the month of January.
